Enjoy the process of creating the first 40 illustrations of Lovecraft’s bestiary

H. P. Lovecraft and his circle have created a wide range of beings and creatures through their stories and novels. However, only the most typical ones have had graphic representation, leaving many others that also deserved the same treatment into oblivion.

With this book, I intend to lay the first stone to solve this problem. Here you will not only find the illustrations of forty of these creatures, but you will also see my work process to make them.

The project

The Art of Lovecraft

This project was born from a much more ambitious idea, to create a Lovecraft bestiary as complete as possible, (about 100 entries) in which not only the best-known beings from the Lovecraft myths are shown, but others with less popularity can also have its appearance. And this book is the first step towards this goal.

This book collects the first 40 illustrations and is divided into the following sections:

Sketches

Every illustration starts with an idea, a visual approach that takes shape until you understand the way to go to create the final illustration.

Previous versions

I’ve been with this project for a while now and that means that the graphic line with which I started this adventure was different from the one I currently have. Therefore, I think it is interesting to remember where I come from to be able to appreciate the final result more.

Illustration process

Once I am clear about the design of the creature, it is time to make it come true. For that, all the illustrations go through a process where we go from pencil lines to the final color, going through inks and flat colors.

Final Illustration

Finally, the objective of this book is that you can enjoy the finished illustrations of all these creatures.

Custom Lovecraft Portrait

If you have purchased one of the Nyarlahotep packages, I will send you an email at the end of the campaign so that you can send me a photo of yourself or the person you want me to portray and we will get to work on the illustration. I will send you the process as I go through it, so that you are up to date at all times.
